Plan B6 of the Day: Officials at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania were asked to explain their decision to offer students access to the emergency contraception pill Plan B through a vending machine inside the school’s health center.
“We had some conversations with them and did a survey of the student body and we got an 85 percent response rate that the students supported Plan B in the House Center,” said Ship’s Vice president of Student Affairs, Dr. Roger Serr.
One dose of the so-called “morning-after pill,” which can legally be purchased over-the-counter by individuals 17 or older, will set students back $25. The university says it uses money made from sales to purchase more pills. Some 350 to 400 doses are sold each year.
“The vending machine is just a way to dispense it,” said Dr. Serr. “It’s provided, it’s not necessarily promoted on a large scale.”

uh wow Shippensburg is really near where I’m from and a ton of people from my high school go there (probably more than any other college except maybe the local Penn State campus) and wow, I’m not used to hearing GOOD THINGS about home so this is a nice change

This is really intriguing (to my followers that I didn’t grow up with, I live like half an hour from this town (so does Nate (the person I reblogged this from (y’all should follow him if you like good music opinions)))).  I don’t know if I like the idea of them being sold from a vending machine (just because it’s a vending machine), but I am very surprised (in a good way) that a local college town is so forward thinking.
Random fact, I also know that a co-ed from Shippensburg University was featured in a ‘Playboy’ “College Girls” shoot from like the 90s.  *The More You Know*

my first thought was “Ship really needs that.”
And that was wrong of me to say (But most of the girls I know that go to ship get it on and have baby scares….often….).ANNNNYWHOO. I also live pretty darn close to shippensburg (LIKE MAVERICK AND NATE WHO ARE BOTH REALLY SWELL GUYS AND YOU ALL SHOULD FOLLOW THEM BECAUSE I SAID SO) so it’s pretty nice to see this. I mean…a vending machine is a little sketchy. I think that a girl should enjoy getting plan b. put it in a piñata and take a whack at it until it falls out.
ACTUALLY, what frightens me is girls who don’t realize this shouldn’t be taken more than a few times within a certain time period…it can really mess things up. And by things I mean menstrual cycles. I remember working in the pharmacy I’ve  seen girls come in two or three times in a month then wonder why they have really heavy periods or periods that last a month (once even two months). I think it would be more effective to have the people go to some sort of  health center and have the risks and benefits explained. I know…what a drag.
ANYWAH, kudos ship. I’m going back to watching teen mom and drinking coke. THUG LIFE
